Friday Mosque (Huskuru Miskiiy)
Built in the 17th century the Huskuru Miskiiy or Friday Mosque served the population of Male as their main mosque for almost four centuries, until the Islamic Centre and Grand Friday Mosque took over the function in 1984. Built by Sultan Ibrahim Iskandhar in 1656 the mosque is a masterpiece of coral curving and traditional workmanship - probably the best display of coral curving anywhere in the world.
The National Museum
National museum in Maldives is one of the main tourist attraction destinations of the country. Located in the Sultan Park, which was a part of the Sultan's palace, it is basically a conversion of the old palace building. The museum has a valuable collection of objects of the past that depict the history and rich cultural heritage of the country.
Mulee Aage
Across the road from the Hukuru Miskiiy is a blue and white building with an elaborate gatehouse. This is the Mulee-aage, which was originally built by Sultan Shamsuddeen III for his son just before the First World War. After the sultan and his son were banished in May 1936, the house was declared a government property. In 1986, the house was renamed the Presidential Palace and was upgraded to hold official functions and to accommodate visiting Heads of States and other foreign dignitaries, however H.E President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom moved to a new official residence in 1994. Male Local & Fish Market
The Male' Fish Market and the Local Market selling a range of local produce. While some 'dhonis' from all corners of the country unload dried fish, fresh fruits and vegetables from the atolls others are seen loading everything from foodstuffs to construction materials. The pace increases in mid-afternoon as fishing 'dhonis' start returning with their day's catch.
